[edit: I never did solve this, and eventually bought an external USB soundcard, which works fine, more or less]
Hello,
I'm running ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1501. I've been trying to record some stuff using a line-in from a hifi amp via the mic input, using Audacity. Problem is, the sound is awful. It sounds lke it's been recorded through, well, a really bad microphone.
Two pertinent things:
1) I can use a voice microphone fine through the mic input to use Skype.
2) I remember vaguely, back in the bad old Windows days, that I had a similar problem and had to do some fiddling; basically finding a magic hidden menu where you could change the input from mic (awful quality) to line (decent quality).
So I'm guessing that, somewhere, somehow, there must be a similar way to change the input from a mic input (like it is now, hence awful sound) to a line input.
Any ideas? Greatly appreciated. Thanks.
