Saw and ad that said "Sara Helps PCs Run Faster"

I think I saw this ad on Yahoo this morning. "Sara Helps PCs Run Faster" for free. Anyway, I clicked on it. It says that a NortonLive tech expert will personally optimize PC performance through a convenient remote connection. This version of the software is supposed to be on sale at $39.99 and that's 40% off. I'm glad I use Kubuntu!

Yes. And the point is?

That people are paying for software that they really don't need. They can find fixes on the net for free by using msconfig, the registry, etc. without paying Symantec.

Anyhow on this topic how does the service work? Does someone use remote assitance to tweak msconfig/services.msc. It's obviously a rip off but it could be useful for people who would not have a clue otherwise.

I do not want to start any kind of fight, but I think that it is just another "poor suckers" thread. What he is basically saying is that people spend money on stuff they could get for free.

They are all rips. All they do is put some kind of jacket on msconfig, and call it their own program. most of these programs simply do this, and it works.

So how do you know it's a rip-off?

There are lots of people who pay a mechanic to change the oil in their car when they could do it themselves.

It's offering a service that SOME people might find useful.

I built OEM Ubuntu machines for a while and I DID set them up for remote service. This was very useful for simple "how do I..." calls. I offer this as part of free 90 day service.
