What's the deal with forum staff and stuff

What does it mean when there are users with this thing written over their usernames: 'ubuntu forum staff'. What do you have to do to become a member of this staff?:confused:

You have to be nice, helpful, and overall a good member of the community. Then, when the need for more staff arises, we might consider you as a candidate and you might get a PM asking you if you would like to join.

chucky, that's not true...it's only 1 or 2 that are expected to do that ;)
