As the 3 year support for 6.06 LTS (Desktop) comes to a close in the next couple of months I wanted to thank everyone who:

  • Developed
  • Tested
  • Packaged
  • Maintained
  • and anyone else who worked with

6.06 LTS

I know it is difficult to work on someone else's code, most would rather write new code, but 6.06 was the first distro that I have used for more than a few months. (Loaded it on my machine in July '06). And without your continuing efforts, it would not be the rock of stability that is has been for me. 6.06 LTS is truly the OS that moved me away from the MS hegemony permanently. My little PIII @933 Mhz has been cruising along for almost 3 years now.. I wanted to say thanks.

FYI, I have loaded 8.04.1 LTS 64-bit on my new Quad core / 8GB and am starting to move to it so that when 6.06 is retired, I will be ready with 8.04 for hopefully another 3 successful years. I will upgrade my old machine to 8.04 at some point and my 9 year old niece will be its new owner.

Take care and: GO UBUNTU!

Wow...I've never heard of anyone using an LTS for the whole length of support. Very cool! It's kind of nice to know that even in the face of 6 month "upgrades", the older versions are still around, and still good enough to run on a day-to-day basis. :)

Good luck with your 8.04 install. :)

Kubuntu 6.06 was my favourite Ubuntu release and I've not been totally satisfied with it since, which is why I ended up switching and ultimately using Slackware eventually for stability and customisation.

Kubuntu 6.06 on my computer which still runs it will be getting openSUSE 11.1 on Friday so all should go well.

Anyway like the OP said thanks for Dapper it was a great release!.
