Beginners Team Education Focus Group - Call for Instructors

Hello Tutorial and Tip Makers

The Beginners Team Education Focus Group is looking for 'instructors' to offer 'courses' to Ubuntu users. These courses could be forum or wiki based only, irc only or use a combination of the two formats. (I am considering developing some content that could be delivered by local Ubuntu LoCo teams as well). Obviously many of the threads here are evidence of the great knowledge you all possess. I would love to invite everyone who has gotten a thread approved here to schedule question and answer sessions for people looking for help on the topics you have covered.

Hypothetical topics:

The goal would be to give more information about the general process than is typically found in forum posts.

• How to install wirless drivers via a wrapper
• How to install a proprietary video driver
• How to configure UFW
• How to add additional repositories

maybe if us beginners could request tutorial and howto's and then people who had the know-how could select the tutorials that they could do best.

that way tutorials are produced which beginners actually needed.

I must admit I'm a newbie and I need to explore more to fully understand Ubuntu and having this tutorial will make us grow.

I mean I think it would be interesting if we had weekly "classes" on IRC, and then past the log to this forum. We could rotate topics and instructors. I don't but I am very interested in this.

I'd be happy to do a class on adding repositories. Could also talk about 3rd party ppa's and signing them.

When would the beginners team education take effect?

I think that's a great idea and I would love to participate.

Well, I'm an absolute beginner and just figured out howto install ubuntu 9.04 with two NICS, webmin, ... as a gateway/dhcp server with LAMP and JAVA on a local network.

Maybe some people might want such a setup at home too? Let me know if you need some tutorial about that...

Only one remark: I know about the security issues running an application server that's also a gateway and dhcp: if someone can help me out about configuring and monitoring all ports in gnome or text, let me know ;-)

I am a newbie to ubuntu 9.04 ... so i am waiting for these tutorials and more..

I would be more than willing to assist, although as a semi-noobie myself I should probably stick to just supporting those more knowledgeable than me, so if anyone needs some graphs, ppts, or any other helpful resources to help in teaching new-comers I would be more than happy to assist. I know it sounds corny to offer "graphs, ppts, etc." but whatever it takes to help people new to Ubuntu feel more comfortable I am all for, and if that means supporting the "teaching staff", I just want to offer my services. Consider me a potential TA )Teachers Assistant ;)

Two very good idea's

It would be more than awesome if their was a place for me to go to learn. 720iD had a great oppinion i cant say how many times, i said to myself, like mann i wish these linux guru's could explain this easier... or something like is this guy writing this HOW TO: even human? and they are also talking about stuff WELL over my head... things i should even be concerend about just starting linux...

and techfanboy81, im with ya, i would love it if someone could help me fully understand ubuntu... i would be so greatful that when i am a "whiz" at all this stuff i would offer my services to others just to give back... "promiss" and i am sure im not the only newbie who would do that... WE COULD CREATE AN ARMY OF LINUX HELPERS... YEAH A ENTIRE ARMY... ...BUT WHO WOULD BE SANTA CLAUSE???

I would love to see video tutorials in an IRC setting. I would love to see some programming go to making that happen. Some type of structure would be nice for cataloging, but I love learning from video.

on these classes are we the beginners going to know about it when you do it?

This is a great idea. Love to give somthing back. I think the best way to learn somthing is to teach it :). I'm still on the build and break stage at the moment. Will be able to offer somthing in the new year.

hi this is my 1st day with ubuntu 9.1 and i still dont understand ubuntu linguage. hope to learn as quick as possible. tutorials to teach how to install programms, are welcome. greetings

Why don't we just build up on existing Ubuntu community pages, when a tutorial is requested?

We all agree that it is a good idea, so when are we going to organize ourselves and get started?

I offer my service well i be interest to offer my help to newbieee has i'm on learning stage

i would like to know and help compilling testing software from source and learn diffrent options for this purpose

learning and sharering is great fun for me ? i spend most of the time tring to do someithing....
