I am looking at getting a new laptop that is light enough to carry around (as opposed to my luggable 4.5kg one).

I am looking at either the Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook P7010, or the Samsung Q30 series notebooks. Both are around 1kg.

Has anyone got any success stories with Ubuntu on either of these?

I have Lifebook S7010. Everything installs just fine, but I ran in small issue that I'm still unable sort out -- trackpoint doesn't work. My USB mouse works just fine and so does the touchpad, but with trackpoint nothing happens. I know it works under Gentoo distribution I tried as well as Windows XP, but with Ubunto it's just a random piece of plastic between G H and B keys. Anyone got any ideas what to do with it?

thumper, I have no direct experience with Linux on the Fujitsu Lifebook, but I did find this link. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fujitsu_Siemens_Lifebook_P7010

Here is a link for a Dell laptop which is apparently the Samsung as it is sold in the USA. http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~gronslet/blog/linux-on-a-dell-x1-aka-samsung-q30

Hope this helps.
