Wow, great work 1 year to fix a Regression!

Good thing I filed a bugreport. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/219595 Bugreport went 8 months with no attention after I posted all the required information. Also troubleshooting consisted of did you try Blank Alpha? Reminds me of why I am so happy I switched to OpenSuse. Besides a much better and smarter installer (for example fixes permissions on home dir and automatically suggests replacing / partition and keeping /home) whenever I've filed a bug, I　get a reply within a week, when I reply they reply. It's the kind of support I would consider paying for, whereas I can't imagine paying for support from Canonical. Rock on OpenSuse!

You could always volunteer some of your own time to fix the bugs? Just like all the other contributors do...

By reporting bugs and Alpha and Beta testing I am volunteering my time to help fix bugs. I'm pretty appreciative of some of the innovation Ubuntu has spurred on in the community, but it's clearly lacking in quality control and polish. If Canonical actually has any intentions of becoming profitable they'll probably want to work on that. This section is for testimonials and experiences. My experience is that even when I volunteered my time and pointed developers to a working configuration I was ignored for 8 months. So for others who want to actually participate in the community or have had other negative experiences with Ubuntu there are some other quality distros out there that they can try as well.

I disagree, it is a valid point made with brevity. I am glad though that the OP found a linux distribution more fitting his needs.

That's the thing with public forums, you get all sorts of answers, some you like and some you don't. Doesn't mean the points you don't like are wrong.

A bug with you as the one and only subscriber. Some bugs get more attention than others, its the way it is.

And you have every right to disagree. Sarcastic comments (i.e. I'd demand a refund) just show immaturity. Sure the OP was a little immature himself, but who cares? Does that justify acting like a first grader? Hell while we're at it why not run home and tell mama that he went and took our wittle OS and fwew it on the gwound!

And you're right...they're public forums, and everyone has the right to participate. Conflicting ideas and opinions are *healthy*. You do get all sorts of answers, too, and usually they are split down the middle as far as like/dislike.

I'm not saying the points I don't like are wrong, though. I'm saying that this one in particuular is petty, juvenile, and unnecessarily detrimental to the image and reputation of what is otherwise a very helpful community. :)

I took it as a reminder that it is a free thing, making it hard to complain too loudly, and not in the sarcastic indignant way that you seem to have done. All in the interpretation I guess.

i couldnt agree more with the OP.

after having several bugs being completely ignored in launchpad. ive decided to switch to arch (i was planning to anyway)..

in 2 weeks, i managed to have a kernel patch applied to their patchset when this very same problem has been fixed several monthes ago, and proposed for the intrepid kernel, only to be ignored.

the complain goes to state that the fix is quite a hack, eventhough it passes archlinux's standards (distro whose devs seem to be much more purists than ubuntu's).

anyhow, i completely get how the OP feels and agree with him. launchpad seems quite useless as it is..

I've been meaning to try Arch. I read a comment on the forums here that said it was "Stupidly fast".

As for bugs in launchpad...well, from what I can gather, launchpad *really is* broken and worthless. Of course, I've never used it...so I don't *know* that. It's just what I've read.

Good luck with Arch. I'm gonna go look it up right now. :)
