laptop specs

wot you think about running ubuntu as a desktop on this laptop:

Celeron 1.3Ghz 256MB RAM Onboard Sound Onboard Video 32MB Shared 20GB Hard Disk

dude, mine is a p3 850MHz running on about 4GB of space, and it rocks.

watch out for any double pcmcia cards though, (internal 802.11b works if non-working 11g pccard is removed)

I've had a seemless experience so it can't hurt ;)

does anybody know how much space i really need to work a ubuntu install?

Be careful which onboard video you use! Anything based on the Intel 915 chipset is hit-and-miss right now--they are usually called Intel Media Accelator 900 or something similar. Older 815 onboard video is supported well.

I know that a stock Edubuntu install--and it has a whole lot of additional software--is about 6.5 gigs. I ran Hoary on a 20g laptop drive and it seemed like I always had plenty of room for d/l stuff etc.

cheers u i can beat that:p mine P2 300mhz 192 ram 20GB hardrive toshiba sattllite runs slow but i can do work!
