I have a Dell Latitude D820. I recently installed ubuntu 8.10. Eveything is working fine except the Nvida 173 or 177 graphics drivers. In the System > Administration > Hardware Drivers menu I have the Nvidia 173 and 177[recomended] Drivers. When I click either to activate I get asked for my password then it just goes back to the Hardware Drivers menu with out doing anything. I have tried it several times and restarting between each time. Right now I am at a loss of how I can fix this. I have even tried uninstalling the drivers then going to the Synaptic packet Manger to reinstall them, but I receive an error saying "there is no available version, but exists in the database."
What should I do? I am not new to ubuntu, but this is just weird.
