Hello,

I have a wide-screen HP laptop that does 1680x1050, working all right. Recently, I bought an external monitor, also 1680x1050 capable. I plug it to the laptop base, and it basically works.

However, the display on the external monitor is somewhat blurry at places (not always the same). Squinting at those places, I can see a shimmering of the picture. This bugs me, because when I boot WinXP, the screen is crystal-clear, no fuzziness, no shimmering.

Does somebody have some hints about how to get rid of the fuzziness with Ubuntu ? (tweaking the X conf ? In what way ? installing the ATI driver ? something else ?)

What card are you using?

...I'd give the proprietary ATI-driver a try!

Thanks, it works with the fglrx driver, no more fuzziness!
