windows vista good or bad

just want to know what the community thinks of vista

I think it was released to early, is slow and eats resources

I like Vista because it was the catalyst for me becoming windows free

Same for me. I had been a Windows fanboy for years, even though I knew of Linux and had it repeatedly recommended to me by my sister. Yet, it wasn't until the fail that is Vista that I finally saw the light and switched to Linux. I started out with Ubuntu, then moved to Fedora and Gentoo. I still haven't taken up my sister's recommendation of Slackware, though.

well vista is better than xp because of a few key features such as the desktop gadgets, and full desktop search. but it is much more resource intensive and rather slow on my laptop so i use ubuntu

Vista is the best windows release since 98 - provided you have the right hardware for it.

Its good, its improvement in security and stability. But the bad part is the resource use is way to high. All the DRM, and incompatible hardware.

So I voted other its good in some ways bad in others. They should be along to close the thread soon.

No "shockingly awful" poll option so I had to settle for bad.

Windows Vista Home Premium is good on my Compaq Presario F756NR laptop.

It works well for me and its pretty. It supports many drivers and lots of software, so I voted yes.

I like Vista. It does what I need and it's pretty fast.

Vista breaks some older software, even when selecting a compatibility mode (XP, 98..). You then have to pay to upgrade your apps. Some older apps work better with Wine than Vista. And with K/Ubuntu, FOSS will be ported to the latest major upgrade without having to pay for it.

if i was satisfied with vista i probably wouldn't be using ubuntu right now

In my opinion Vista is absolutely horrible. My wife bought a brand new Compaq C500 laptop with it preinstalled. After about a month of the Vista blues she had me format the HD and install XP (she wasn't ready for Linux). It's painfully obvious that M$ put form over function on that release.

Vista isn't bad, there are some parts about it that I enjoy using, it's just too top-heavy for me. For a few months I was running Ubuntu only, but I've installed Vista again on a small partition just to play around with it.

I will never use it again as my main OS though.

The only thing good about it is that it is the best thing for getting people to look at other systems.

Now I have a box that is under resource under used. I have three 320G HDDs and 3gigs ram, quad core 2.4GHz. Ubuntu runs like a striped ape.

I put Good. Not that I love it, but I think it's better than XP as long as you have 2 GB or more RAM. Works fine for me, SP1 definately helped.

Aye, and from what it looks like, my AMD system is exactly the same as yours.

Windows Vista is awesome. Greater than the greatest thing ever. That's why all of us Linux and Mac-using folks are switching to it next Thursday.

I vote yes but if you were to compare Vista to lets say... XP or Linux, I would vote XP or Linux. Vista is not bad it just has aggravating features like the prompt that always asks you to make sure you trust a program before your run it and all of the flashy stuff can get annoying. My advice would be once you install it tone all of the stuff down and save some unnecessary CPU and RAM usage.
