How about Noob Friendly Sticky in the general Forum

I notice a lot of the same questions get asked in the general forum by noobs. I was thinking it might be handy to post a Sticky with some getting started links for example to the wiki, to psychocats, to Ubuntu Geek and such. A Few helpful links that would help noobs are listed by other members in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1002093.

Well, there are some really good stickies for that in ABF. And, you can lead a new user to a sticky, but you can't make him read. I personally don't think it's absolutely necessary, but maybe you could compose something you think helpful. And then you could post it here in this thread and alert the staff. They're awefully helpful with that stuff.

its really too bad that these forums are not particularly green user friendly... i mean ive been replying to post for about a week now and still not sure were the option is to leave my own new post is... though, im sure its something obvious, its still convoluted. Other examples of user unfriendlyness include having to enter in a captcha like thing to search from the forum site (but not from google?) or just the over all likeliness that you will find your problem when you type it in the search bar (its not great). Also the tagging system and search system should probably eliminate the word ubuntu because of vagueness and add somethings like "how" so i can quote a human question like "how to install whatever". After all, we come to a forum so we can talk to real people having similar problems, i don't understand why the forum host allows the forum search engine to get in the way. if new comers could easily find problems that were all ready solved, stickies wouldn't be necessary. Thats what the ubutu wiki is for anyways. Unfortunately, unless google starts taking noobs to the ubuntu wiki or a relevant post the repeat problem will still exists.(unless your smart about what terms are used in the sticky.) Anyways... who am i to question how the forums work... i dont even know how to post. lol

Hi and you may have a look here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1006656 If you would like to start a thread on your issue just choose the sub forum like ABT Absolute Beginner Talk and when you enter that sub forum there is a new thread button in the top left. :)

Back on topic, The Beginners forum has a sticky that has alot of great info [[COLOR="RoyalBlue"]New To Ubuntu start here[/COLOR]]("http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=801404") As you can see I added a link to my signature to help the new users find it. :)

Yes I'm aware of the beginners forum, the problem seems to be however that some people don't know how to navigate a forum. I'm not just speaking this way as a forum user but I am also a webmaster and maintain several different forums myself. Time and again I see the same problems arise with various BB software, It may look very naviable to the experienced user but to the untrained eye it can all become confusing and overwhelming.

The Beginner forum, even though it's at the top of the forum, I think to some doesn't look like a link to forum, and so gets overlooked.

How about a redirection link in the general forum to the beginners area or one of the beginners stickies, just something to help cut down on the amount of questions which are repeatedly asked, in there and other forums. IMHO I think most of the support forums should include a sticky link to this sticky in the beginners forum.
