Whenever I suspend, or the screensaver kicks in, or I shutdown/boot, the previous value of the keyboard brightness (in /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768/leds/smc::kbd_backlight/brightness on my hardware) is lost.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the previous setting after any of these events? When one is working in a dark room, it is difficult to login after a suspend without the keyboard backlight coming on again at login time (when it is not yet adjustable by keyboard functio0n keys).

This is a minor issue, but I was wondering if anyone out there has found a solution yet.
