ok this will be long, because i don't know anything about hardware stuff and i try to elaborate :) i got a new comp, only the hard drives were kept, so my Ubuntu. it seems running pretty well, the only thing is that it cannot see my cdrom drives. i have a 'Gigabyte i-DNA LGA775" motherboard, with three IDE slots: IDE 1 is connected directly to the core system (that's what the two hard drives use) IDE 2 and 3 are connected via an "IT8218 IDE RAID" chipset, which is connected to the core with a PCI Bus. The cdrom drives are on IDE2. I tried different settings in my bios / integrated peripherals -setting "Onboard H/W GigaRAID" to "disabled" did not help, nor setting "GigaRAID function" to "ATA" (from "RAID"). what do i need to enable cdrom drives in my Ubuntu? /dev has no content related to cdroms... not /dev/hdc*, nor /dev/cdrom*) thanks for any help in advance!
