In June of this year I installed Ubuntu 8.04, my first go at Linux. All worked fine but the wifi. It took me days and with the help of many wonderful guys and dolls on this forum we eventually got it to work. Now that Ubuntu 8.10 came out I was quite reluctant to change, as I feared I would have to again spend many hours on getting the wifi to work on my Sony Viao laptop. Well I bit the bullet today and installed 8.10 and what do you know, the wifi worked right out of the box. Many thanks to all who worked on this distro, it is great alround. I am very happy to have installed it.

great to hear. don't forget that 8.04.2 (due out jan. 1 09) will have support for newer hardware also, as well as all the updates until then.

Glad to hear you're all set up, and that the wifi works. Like wolfen said, 8.04.2 comes out in January, and will support more hardware. :)

You know you did not need to install 8.10 to see if your wifi worked. Running the LiveCD would have sufficed.
