How long is the your idle battery runtime under Ubuntu? And under OS X?

I have approximately 3h.

I found a test about the MB4-1, which states that the idle time under OS X is about twice as the idle time I have under Linux.

The test is in German, but the graphic should be clear to everyone. Go here and search for "Akkulaufzeit" in your browser.

How can the battery management under OS X be that much better?

I'm getting about 3.5 hours under Linux on my MBP 4,1 and I got only 3 hours under OSX.

Your are right. I should run a test comparing Ubuntu with OS X on my own systems.

I wished the battery runtime would be longer, the 6 1/2 hours from the link I posted would be a good start. :)

Because Apple code OS X with your machine in mind.

On my MBP 4,1 I get 2 1/2 hours MAX (general usage). On OS X, I will get almost 3 1/2.

Yes. But the hardware is pretty much standard, isn't it? The processor is a generic Intel CPU, as well as the graphics card. For your example OS X is using 30% less energy, that is really a lot... I wonder what component makes the major difference. The CPU?

Yes, but Apple can fine-tune power management because it know exactly what hardware you have in your machine (there is a limited set). Linux has to work for "anything".

Also, Apple often uses customized firmware in their "standard" hardware for even more tweaking via software. Plus there are a lot of things OSX stores as variables in EFI or other locations that we do not know how to access.
