Hi, Just a suggestion... why not open up a 3rd party forum for xubuntu here ( http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=46 )? I am pretty sure someone else wanted this as well, but couldn't find it... The xubuntu (xfce) posts are spread everywhere. This would help centralize solutions to those... thanks.

The Xubuntu team has contacted us about a month ago I agreed to host their forum. They will contact me when they are ready according to them. :)
That sounds great! It seems like Xubuntu (and Xfce) are starting to get a lot of support around here of late. It's not uncommon to go into the Gnome support forum and see several threads about Xfce issues. It'll be nice to have one place for all the Xfce related stuff.

Why do you have to wait until the team ask you to open the forum? There are xfce posts on here now. A seperate forum would just keep them in one place making it more convenient.
That's awesome because even though I have a good PC (Pentium 4 at 2.8 GHZ with 1gb ram and ati 9550 256), I want to give xubuntu a try. I am just wondering how well it runs KDE programs like Kopete and Konversation and a few others.
Is Xubuntu a 3rd party project? I thought it is now a part of the Ubuntu team, including releasing Xubuntu CD's?
Maybe it'll deserve a XFCE/Xubuntu section in addition to GNOME and KDE?

Well, I wanted to start low :) but the more the 'merrier' -> XFCE / Xubuntu in addition to gnome / kde is a much better idea :)
I meant to put that in my post as well. I think there should be a single xfce/xubuntu forum like the gnome and kde ones but with no sub forums yet as there probably isn't yet the level of interest to warrant them.

Actually, I use Xfce on my intel 3.2Ghz HT web/samba server. I don't use it because of it's lower resources, but because I like how it is setup. I like how it looks as well. Gnome would be my next choice.
I'm an Xubuntu user and have been wanting an Xubuntu forum section for quite a while. Is there any chance we'll get one?

If it comes into being, would be nice to have it online sometime near the verge of Dapper's release (idle speculation, but seems a good time if the Xubuntu team is ready).
From what I understand reading past threads on the subject, there probally will be a Xubuntu section when a official version of xubuntu is released. Right now, XFCE is just a add on but the devs are supposed to release a Xubuntu ISO when Dapper is released. The person to ask about if there is ever going to be a Xubuntu section would be Ubuntu Geek since he owns and maintains these forums.
i am pretty excited for the xubuntu release. i just installed it ontop of my kubuntu (actually i have kubuntu, ubuntu, and xubuntu installed, but will go for just a xubuntu next time). it is lightweight and fast as anything.

even better would be to merge all the kde, gnome, and xfce forums and just use the tags :)
I thought xfce, gnome, and kde have their own administration tools (like synaptic is in gnome, fstab manager is in xfce, something something is in kde)? Either way, tags would be fine, as long as they are visible :)

Why are you waiting for the xubuntu developers? The developers of ubuntu and kubuntu never post here anyway. The forums are for users not developers. A xubuntu forum would provide one place for xubuntu users to post rather than xubuntu posts getting lost in the gnome forums. I cannot understand why ubuntuforums has been so reluctant to setup a xubuntu forum when I see the third-party forums for minor projects.
actually, i think i'd prefer a forum specifically for lightweight environments.

To add an absolute beginner's perspective:
I've only been using ubuntu (my first distro) for a few weeks and I'm sure like many noobs I'm still switching between Gnome and KDE to try to find the one that works best for me.
Then I see brief snippets in threads about xubuntu dotted around the forums but I have no obvious way of finding more about it from the forum's "shop window" - the home page.
It would seem a pretty obvious (and easy?) thing to me to add this to the 3rd Party section. That way, just looking at it from a noob's point of view we get to see as many ways of working with ubuntu as possible. Then maybe some people who might have wandered away due to not liking Gnome/KDE might hang around. Especially those using an older machine if xfce runs better.

Just for the xfce desktop issues. Right now they get somewhat buried!
I love XFCE, the users have almost no place to go with their problems, questions etc. I think here's the right place to give them a place!
