I'm planning to set up an imac g3 for a child. Although I've never tried it, I like the software that comes with Edubuntu, but the most updated version available for ppc is Edgy from 2006.
The computer will have no internet access except when I am installing. So I would like the distro to either have a lot of great educational software and games pre-installed, or packages available offline, maybe as an extra cd.
Anyone know if there's something more up-to-date than Edubuntu Edgy?

this may not be the answer but if your chilad is prek-1st ggrade you may want to let them try gcompris (just a suggestion)

Yes, Gcompris is one of the software packages I would like preinstalled if possible. I am mostly looking for a solid ppc distro that either focuses on education or can be easily modified to.
There's a long list of possibilities here, but I'm not sure which are worthwhile.
Personally I think I'd install Debian's powerpc version, and then mimic the software available in Edubuntu.
It is too bad that Ubuntu doesn't fully follow PPCs any more. Of course, Dapper is still valid, even if the software will be somewhat (grossly?) out of date.
I would suggest a ppc version of edubuntu, whether an older official version or an unofficial port.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinking K's got the right idea with a modified Debian. It is too bad ppc is not supported any longer, but I understand and have come to terms with it (after much counseling). At least Debian can still be counted on as a high quality option.
+1 for Debian, PPC version. Consider KDE 3.5.# for the desktop envionment. It is simple to setup for autologon.
You might want to look at the educational live disc Zenwalk released last year. Unfortunately, it probably won't work on the Imac.
This is what I used as the model for my daughter's computer.
EDIT: There is also Yellow Dog Linux. It is based off of RedHat and is ported specifically to the PPC Platform. I am not sure about the availability of educational packages. The older versions are free to download.
