Okay, I'm pretty new to this... what I'm currently attempting to do is install ubuntu 8.10 to my macbook with leopard as a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop. I'm trying to boot ubuntu from a disk image, and I get the loading screen for ubuntu. all looks alright, with two exceptions. it is saying my scsi controller isn't installed, and in the end it tells me that no boot device is available, and doesn't load any further.

I only slightly know what I'm doing, although I'm pretty comfortable working in the terminal. I'm running os x 10.5.5 and ubuntu 8.10, maybe it's a compatibility issue that I don't know about, or perhaps I am missing an obvious step, or perhaps trying to do something much more complicated than i thought, but in any case i humbly present this problem to all of you on this site in the hopes of receiving the knowledge and information that i seek. I thank you all in advance.

Please, somebody help me out here... Since my last post I think I've ruled out compatibility issues; I downloaded ubuntu 7.10, and had the same problem. Please help, I really want to make this work. I'm thirsty for ubuntu, and this is the only method I think I've got!!!

sounds like a VM configuration problem. HOw did you set it up?

Note, if you do not have parallels 4.x, Ubuntu 8.10 will not be compatible, and if you want to install an eariler version of Ubuntu, it would be easier to download a virtual appliance: http://www.parallels.com/ptn/download/va/?va_id=228
