New Build

Hello all this is my first post,

I am not yet an ubuntu user, ive tested the live disc on my girlfriends laptop and fell in love.........

anyway, im building a new computer and would like to run Ubuntu as my main, if not only, operating system, my PC will be running on an athlon 3500+, with a gigabyte K8N PRO Sli motherboard and 1Gig RAM, now although i would HATE to have to install Windows i would like to play some up-to-date games, would this be possible? :confused:

any feedback would be appreciated

It's called a dual-boot. It's very easy to set up and hundreds (thousands?) of Ubuntu users do it already.

If you're a gamer and got a copy of xp it would be absolutly the easiest to dual boot. You can run a lot of games in linux, but why make it more difficult than it have to be. XP is a nice gaming environment, and then just use linux for the rest. Lot of people do just that. If you dont know anything about dualboot look in the wiki, or have a little search in the forums. A quite straightforward thing to set up.

That's almost the same setup I'm running (same CPU and quantity of RAM, similar motherboard), and I dual boot as well. It's really quite easy to do, and it's much nicer having Ubuntu for day-to-day stuff and only using Windows when absolutely necessary (coincidentally, the slight inconvenience of booting into Windows makes you play games less, increasing productivity, an extra bonus).

Hi, I'm actually running almost the exact same setup and was wondering if anyone else who had this motherboard was having trouble with the onboard soundcard. I'm not getting any sound at all except when I load XP. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
