I'm pretty new to ubuntu, and running 8.10 as a virtual machine on my macbook pro with leopard via parallels desktop 4. I'm trying to turn on my visual effects, but whenever i do it attempts to scan for the necessary drivers, and appears not to find them. It then simply tells me that "desktop effects could not be enabled." I'm wondering what these drivers are that I'm missing, and how I would go about obtaining and installing them.

Thank you all in advance,

Eric

virtual machines don't support accelleration. so if you are planning on playing games or really using compiz and likes then dual boot is the better option as far as i know

Does anyone know if it's possible to do on a virtual machine? If not, I'm willing to dual boot... Is it possible to have both???

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

parallels (or any other VM) does not support 3D acceleration in a Linux Guest OS. Desktop effects requires 3D.
