+1, you should have plenty of space even if you just install Ubuntu. Use the 'Create a USB startup disk' option in the Administration menu.

Somewhat, it could be done but you would need the ISO file (not the livecd) so it would be relatively pointless. If you have Intrepid installed though you can just do it from your regular installation.

Puppy and SliTaz are two awesome flash drive distros. They are designed so that everything loads into ram at boot time, which means 1) very fast performance; 2) the flash drive lasts longer.

A CD holds less than a gigabyte, so any distro that fits onto a CD (including Ubuntu) should also fit onto your 2gb flash drive, if you are running it in Live mode.

Two useful tools for this task are the Live USB Creator on the Ubuntu Intrepid Live CD, and Unetbootin (which works with just about any distro).

Add Slax to the list... it is fast and supports slackware packages.

How would Arch behave? I personally never installed that one to begin with.

I had fun with the persistant install(installs it to your flash, not like running a livecd, so it allows you to save) of xubuntu...woeked great on a 2gb flash drive.
