the media library heavyweight media players seem to be in active development right now, and banshee recently gained support for several players and is becoming a major jukebox, with amarok 2 on the horizon looking to be a possible too-early release but nonetheless very good looking, and rhythymbox remaining a useful, simple gtk jukebox. exaile is also fast becoming another gtk option with more and more features. so what is your perferred jukebox/library organizer and why? Note: This competition excludes mpd, mpc's and audacious, xmms, and similar, because they are slimline players and targeted at a different kind of user. This competition doesn't exclude itunes or winamp 5 or something on wine.

amarok (vers. 1.4).

mainly because it's a great library organizer. And it's got scripts up the wazoo.

However, I'm not happy with glitches in gapless playback (ogg files)--or maybe that's a Xine problem. Has this been fixed in amarok 2?

Ya I like Amarok too:)

#4

Banshee. Mainly because of its large list of features and its user-friendlieness.

I have used Amarok for some time, but have recently switched to Banshee. It has a simple and elegant interface and does everything I need it to do. I am not a fan of Amarok 2 at all. The interface is just way too cluttered. I just wished that Banshee supported custom album art. It does a great job of downloading the correct album art, but it's not 100%. Having the ability to set the album art, ala Amarok, would solve this problem.

I like Amarok. I tried Banshee a few times but it doesn't appeal to me.

I think Amarok is the best out of all 3, but I've been using Exaile for quite some time now and I love it.

Of the three, Rhythmbox is my favorite, but I prefer to use lighter mp3 players such as Alsaplayer

#9

I think Rhythmbox is cool, I've just had problems with it in the pass.

I've tended to use rhythymbox because I've heard the other two require kde libs to be loaded and installed (not sure if thats true but haven't wanted that extra overhead if it is). I prefer banshee in terms of the interface though.

I've invested time in Banshee, Rhythmbox *and* Amarok, and of the three, I like iTunes the best.

Seriously, it's getting better, but the state of the art in Linux multimedia still ain't quite there yet.

iTunes user myself, but Banshee is by far the most promising project. Amarok seems like a lost cause since it goes by a different philosphy than I like, way to cluttered and filled with tons of features I don't need.

Rythmbox is just not progressing at all.

Out of those three I would say banshee due to its simplicity and clean look.

Next comes Rhythmbox.

I love banshee now that amarok 2 has broken my fragile media player heart. In 1.4.1 it's most things I want from a media player that Amarok 2 is not. (I have used it). It also catalogs and plays my videos and edits my tags rightly. Whats more, it displays the album art in my music.
