It was a toss-up between starting either a "Filk" thread or a "Haiku" thread. The imaginary blonde Six in my head told me I should start a Haiku thread, since Zen minimalism it is under-represented on this message board. Since I actually don't care for NuBSG, I decided to just ignore her instead.
Herewith I begin the Filk Thread... (and there was much rejoicing. Yay.)
First, we need some rules. I'm a big one on long-winded formalities, so I'll keep this short.
Filk is basically the hijacking of an existing song and re-writing it to some degree to serve as a parody or send-up (or spoof or good-natured criticism) of some other topic. Usually, these topics are either computer- or sci-fi-related in some way, but that is not a requirement. Below I will post an example, but for the brave and adventuresome, here's a link to Tony Fabris' GeekHackFilk.com filk-related web site, where you can see lyrics and even watch and listen to performances.
