A mouse.:D We went in Staples looking for a cheap mouse for the wifes Acer One, she is like me and hates touchpads and I grabbed a mini Logitech for £8.99 and then she pointed out the mini Microsoft branded ones for £6.49, a saving of £1.50. I protested which even caused two Staples employees to get dragged into the argument. It turns out that one was a Slackware user and the other was a died in the wall Microsoft FanBoy. The wife regretted arguing with me as, the Slackware user and I turned on the fanboy. It was a good trip to staples. although it did result in me adding £6.49 into the M$ coffers. I feel dirty now.

Have an MS keyboard and it's fine... I'm annoyed that it has a play/pause button, and volume buttons and stuff, but no Next or previous track buttons though :P
I just changed it in amarok's global shortcuts, now "Search" is play/pause, "email" is Stop, "home page" is next and vol up/down are unchange

i have a MS mouse that i bought before completely switching to linux. it will be the last MS product i own. (once it dies)
i would be willing to pay twice as much for a non-MS product.

This was my exact argument. My main point was that if I pay them for any product I would be actively condoning their continued existence.

I am kind of surprised that Microsoft didn't make Windows so that only a Microsoft Mouse must be used with the computer...I'll bet Ballmer is seething over that one... lol

little do you all know that you're all hypocrites. you cry murder over supporting microsoft, yet i would put down big money that you all use closed source nvidia drivers, non-free codecs, flash, etc.
if you actually had such a passion for free software, you would go without 3d acceleration in linux, you wouldn't watch any videos, or listen to music in linux, because to do so, you're supporting closed source. how about never being able to look at flash? while you're at it, why don't you gut out your entire wirless network? seeing as drivers typically aren't open source.

As for the OP's problem, well I would have paid the extra, I've done it before, I paid almost three times as much for my current keyboard because it didn't have the microsoft logo on the meta keys(only keyboard I have ever seen like this, I had to support it).

microsoft is just a company that sells a well supported operating system. who cares? why does it offend you?
PS: how do you boot your computer? your bios is proprietary and closed source, have fun with that.
also, you may want to look into getting rid of your internet connection as well and look into dialup. your cable/dsl/fiber modem runs closed source firmware.
your cable/satellite tv box should also be gotten rid of, and reverted back to antenna. those boxes run closed source firmware. hell, your television itself runs closed source. toss that too!
your cellphone should be tossed, unless it's a G1 or moko. oh wait, the bios in the G1 and moko phones... and the qualcom chips.. closed source. whoops. no cellphone service for you!
your dvd player, game console, gps system, EVERYTHING is closed source.
by purchasing these everyday items, everyone supports closed source firmware/software. thus, hypocritcal. i don't see everyone in these forums bashing all this technology as hard as they do with microsoft. with that mindset, we should just set ourselves back to the stone ages because we can't have everything that is nice for free.

You really should get out more. It was a slightly funny story, nothing more. I couldn't care less if people use MS products or not. Microsoft are a great company, without their input they IT industry would not be as we know it today. I used closed source software all the time, I have to, I couldn't do my job without it.
Microsoft *does* make good mice. I have an optical notebook mouse that is very good and very comfortable. The only problem I have with it is not even a problem with Microsoft itself. It's the fact that I lost the wireless receiver in the Phoenix International Airport! :P
I bought a Logitech mouse last night because I couldn't find a Microsoft one at the store. I have to say, this mouse is much less comfortable to use. First of all, when I first plugged it in, it was configured for left-handed people by default.
Second, the scroller/middle button is harder to use. The scroller is fine, but the middle button requires more pressure to push than with the middle button of the Microsoft mouse. You really don't realize how much you use that button until the experience of pushing that button changes.

Yes. That was the first thing I did when I noticed it was configured as a left-handed mouse. There's nothing on the package that suggests it's supposed to be that way.
My guess is that it was GNOME that autoconfigured it as left-handed. I haven't tried it in Windows yet.
Regardless, it was pretty easy to reconfigure it as right-handed from the Mouse Options under the System menu.

I work in an electronics store and I am suprised on how many people who won't buy m$ products.E.g keyboard, mouse, webcams. I can say that I don't go out of my way to promote m$ products either.

Do you know that Microsoft never believed in the popularity of "the Internet" at first ? They had their own internet they wanted to push, called MicroSoft Network, better known as MSN. I'm very glad that not too many people started using that, otherwise we'd all be sitting behind a Microsoft computer now.

i took a permanent marker and covered the windows logos on my keyboard.
