Hello, I've been running Ubuntu 7.10 for the last year. Totally sold. Will never go back to Windows. I'm ready to upgrade to the latest version, but may experiment with Kubuntu this time. Is Kubuntu "better" than Ubuntu?? What features does it have that the other doesn't?? Why should I make the switch?

Come on! Convince me! :lolflag:

From my understanding it just uses the KDE desktop envoirment and Ubuntu uses GNOME.

You can have a mix and match. I prefer KDE, KDE 4.2 beta is stable for a beta and the multirow taskbar is awesome. KDE natively has amarok and k3b highly considered among users of gnome as well as kde. I prefer kubuntu but you can always have a live cd of both

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=994703 for how to get kde 4.2

Thank you for the replys! And I have to apologize: I didn't know this question has the potential to start a war. After a bit of Googling, I realized there can be some rather passionate responses to the question. I asked because I just don't know. I downloaded the latest version, and will run the live CD just to play around with it.

i think that i and most knowledgable linux people agree that kubuntu is junk. don't waste your time. install it, and you'll see why. if you want a good distro with kde, use debian that uses kde 3.5 (very stable). let the flames begin.

KDE4 is horrible, stick with Ubuntu

Move to Arch Linux.

Gnome is horrible stick with Kubuntu.

Install Kubuntu or Ubuntu and then install the other's meta-package via Synaptic. BAM. You can play with both and find which you like more.

Gnome is evil [-X you should try openbox xfce kde......

I'd get two live CDs and try each one out on it's own first using the live cd. Installing ubunutu-desktop seems to be as big as getting a live CD anyway.
