classical CLI converters are ffmpeg , mencoder, dvdrip.

the GUI ones are Vive , winff

Handbrake is the best converter I have ever seen. It has a fantastic GUI, but can also be controlled from the command line. Until recenty, it only ripped DVDs, but now it converts all sorts of videos.

Just look in Applications -> add/remove programs and look in the video and sound category.

ive used any video converter and i think it can run under Wine. Ive also tried Format Factory (also under Wine) and it works well.
