How does one install mplayer in Ubuntu 5.10, I just downloaded it and in attempting to install it, it claims I don't have the -devel packages of gtk2. I can't seem to find those, I tried following these instructions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=78037 and they don't seem to work, what am I missing?

make sure all your repositories are up to date and do your apt-get update, then you should find it in the Add Applications utility under sound and video/ more programs

I'm setting up an Ubuntu installation for the first time (Breezy) and would like to install MPlayer too, so I went to Add Applications and found it where you said it should be, but it's dimmed out. The panel on the right told me

"This program is not currently installable. It should be available in the "multiverse" section of the repository. Enable that section in the Repositories dialog in the Settings menu to install it."

So I went to Settings, clicked Add, and worked through each of the repositories checking Universe and Multiverse options and clicking OK. But MPlayer is still dimmed out. What have I missed?
