I'm trying to save some work I've been doing for the past hour in GIMP, but the computer claims it can't because it's an "Unknown File Type" I've tried to save it as psd, jpg, png, xcf, bmp, and gbr, the result is always the same.

How do I fix this? I should point out that I'm currently on Windows because my Ubuntu's wireless doesn't work.

gimp saves its files as xfc or something like that.

when your saving- go to file "save as" then under file type choose "jpeg" and make sure the file name is "yourfile.jpeg"

You have to both select the .jpg file type and type the filename a some.jpg (using jpg format as an example)
