Improper handle of Mod's powers

Little things I'd like to point out, to see if I can get some feedback here. If anyone has had the same issue, or if someone agrees/disagrees with me, anything really..

My first issue is that I apparently violated the following:

Signatures are also not a place for inappropriate material such as attacks, slander, harassment, political or religious remarks.

This concerns a link and message I had in my sig. saying "Free Gaza," now I'm not saying I violated that rule, I'm just saying that the mod. deleted more than just the "Free Gaza" link. (as you can see).

Second issue is that I violated:

Advocating illegal torrent use

By saying:

My friend actually got caught downloading a game off of torrents, had to pay some sort of fine and was suspended from his net.

Anyway.. google + megashares account > torrents

Now, I completely disagree with this alleged infraction, and believe that I did the exact polar opposite of "advocating illegal torrent use." If I read that from some one else, and used torrents, I'd most likely cease torrent use from then on.

I feel the user had a legitimate question, and simply did not know what he/she was doing. While I do acknowledge the fact that the Ubuntu forums are susceptible to spam, there is a chance that this is not the case. The no-questions asked policy reminds me a little too much of Guantanamo Bay.

I do not feel that this is an issue on these forums whatsoever, I am just expressing my concern. I also choose not to disclose the aforementioned Mod's names, for I believe this informal sanction should not turn into a stigma.

I did not post this to start an argument, I'm not even mad over the situation. I have just seen too many little things like this become constant abuses of power. And since we *do* live in the land of the "free" (lol), I am expressing my freedom of speech, before that disappears also.

your signature contained political statements. Section 12 of the Code of Conduct covers signature content. We do not allow political links etc in the signature files.

The moderator acted in accordance to the COC removing the signature. The non political elements can be added back

I understand that the moderater acted in accordance to the code of conduct, but I must have missed the 'it's okay if moderators indiscriminately remove signature content, mistakes are unimportant' clause.

Oh well, at least this is only the first time.

From the COC ..."Respect the forum staff. We provide a service in our free time to keep the forums running efficiently. We will occasionally ask for input, but in some cases we will not, please respect our decisions. Also, we do edit for content, if you have an issue with our moderation, please open a request in the forum resolution center."

You will see that we will edit content. signatures are a part of the content.

Like I said, I really don't mind the fact that the links were removed from my signature. My issues lies in the fact that my signature was messed up, and not fixed by the person who messed it up.

But onto the next issue, no point in arguing over principles.

In these cases I think its best for the member to redo an appropriate signature themselves.As opposed to staff making a new one . I will take it up with staff that we should PM members to tell them what we have done and why

I need to modify my remarks in the previous post. As I reread this thread, I see that the links were approved based on how they were labeled. After actually clicking them and seeing the content of the sites that were linked to, it was obvious that the content was inappropriate.

I'm not here to mislead some one, nor am I hear to get some sort of childish revenge plot against the mods by misleading anyone. Labeling the sites how I labeled them seems sufficient enough, next time I'll be sure to include a synopsis.

Oh, I did not re-add those. Those were left there by the previous mod who deleted 'Free Gaza,' and 'Tear it Down.' All I did was fix the coding that he also deleted. So I don't see why I got another warning for that.

Anyway, this is kind of turning into what I did not want it to turn into. I got most of my questions answered anyway, so KiwiNZ, you can close this topic. Thanks for your help.
