I was researching into open source and free alternatives to programs like media shout, which alot of churches use for their worship service, and I cam across this project:

http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/changingsong/index.php?title=Main_Page

It is an effort to make a media presentation software for churches that is open source and cross platform, it is a rework of opensong and i believe openlp.org is involved with it.

I am going to learn programming just so I can help, and I would encourage anyone here with programing experiance (or the will to learn) to help out with this project.

this one is to have more features, like import video from any source (dvd, internet, file, etc.)

Ah I see. That will probably require a lot more power from the computer.

Its OpenGL 3 right?

Cause just lyric text or bible txt is fine with ZionWorx.

Videos might get a bit distracting.

Videos are actually pleasing. Our church uses them in a variety of ways, sometimes behind the lyrics on screen, other times a completely separate video to be played sometime during the program. I would love to see a (free) alternative to Media Shout. Why should Microsoft own the churches too?

Actually lyricue does now use OpenGL for graphics (via Clutter) and can play videos, or live images from webcams etc. It can also display the lyrics over the top of the videos and even do 3d transitions for the text/backgrounds.
