BFG Geforce 6600 GT Video problem

I currently was trying to install Ubuntu, The install was successful right up untill the system was loading into the gnome desktop where suddenly my screen just went into a bunch of colored pixels . So obvioulsy either my videocard is not setup properly or my monitor settings are incorret. I searched the formums for an answer to fix this issue , but never really found a definate answer to it. I tried going into xorg.config to fix it but I think I entered the info incorrectly well I know i did. So if anyone can give me a hand . thanks
