your post is very vague. what, if any problems are you having?
Because there are many different wireless cards which often times have questionable or non-existant linux drivers.
Talk with wireless hardware manufacturers and ask them why they won't supply linux with working drivers!!!

LOL I'm having all kinds of problems with this...
The system says my card is recognized and enabled, but I can't get WiFi to work..
It is an Atheros AR242x (I have memorized now and will never forget it I've typed it so much today)

but I get stuck on running this process because at the step that says" Download 32 bit driver Extract the archive and execute the following command from the folder where you extracted the contents"
Well I am only a couple of days new to Ubuntu and don't know how to extract the files from the archive, where the hell the archive is or any clue how to execute something from the folder. ROFLMAO.... And can't find where it actually tells you how to be able to do this stuff either...I've got the Ubuntu tools or whatever it's name is book on hold at the library but can't get it into Monday So basically I've pulling my hair out all day over this....
So how's your day going?:)

I guess it is because they are too cheap eh?
Intel is a friend of OpenSorce :KS
No problems if you only buy from vender's that support OpenSorce
But really Linux has the best WiFi dirvers for all the rest of the wifi chipsets.
i.e.
MadWiFi for athros
serial monkey drivers for realtec ra73 stuff
There are even cracker drivers for broadcom cipsets.

to extract a compressed file (file archive) i.e. a tar.gz tar.gz2 or zip... you can find it in the graphical file manager and right click it then select "Extract Here"

I tried to make it newcomer friendly.
You hit on one of the biggest problems of Linux. Much of the documentation is written for people who hardly need it, and will write something as a self standing instruction, when to the beginner, it's not. Extract the file. To the newcomer, this isn't self-standing.
So, don't feel silly, we all had to learn at some point.
Ok....I have just installed linuxICE on my carputer.....My Asus motherboard has an Atho based TP-Link (WN550G) wifi card in one of the slots, Ubuntu (which I had on there before *briefly*) would not recognise it But now I've loaded the Ubuntu based linuxICE I'm wondering if madWIFi will sort it and if so how?....Would it be easier and better to get a linux compatible card?
