Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 5.10 in the VMware player on Windows XP Home. My soundcard is a SoundBlaster Live 24bit. I have sound in Ubuntu - system events etc. but when I try to play or rip an audio CD I have no sound. There are no errors, the CD player says it is playing the CD, just no sound! Any clues?

Thanks in advance.

Double click the volume icon in the panel. Check if the CDROM has not been muted, and the volume is high enough.

If that doesn't work, try switching your sound output options from the menu in sound properties.

I don't know if your problem has been solved, and I am not an *nix expert, however in the hardware world, there is a wire that runs from your cd-rom drive to your sound card. This wire is usually used to play cds straight from the drive. That way there is no load to the other hardware of the system. It is a simple 4 wire cable. I would check to see if that is hooked up.

Good luck.
