Hi everyone,

I am trying to support Catalan language on a mobile device. The number of the keys and their position is fixed for all languages on the software keyboard.

This is not specifically for Ubuntu but I would be grateful if you could look quickly at my draft.

ºª·$%&

 • What are the 4 most important characters among the following 6 characters ```
[*] Did I miss any important character of the Catalan language?
[*] Do you think the layout attached will be the easiest to use?
Thank you greatly for your help,

Ben

Hi Ben,

First of all, let me thank you for considering our language in your development.

My answers:

1.- ºª·$%&

º and ª are not necessari in catalan, as we use regular vowels for this issue. · The elevated point (don't know how is it called in english) is probably the most important in catalan (of this six, of course). $%& this three are as important in catalan as it is supposed to be in other languages. Perhaps % this is the most used of them three, as an aritmethic operand.

2.- It seems you've got almost all of them. I haven't been able to see if there are accents or not in your template. We use both "closed" á, and "open" à accents. Also we use "dièresi" ï.

3.- I don't have enough background to answer properly to this question.

Perhaps somebody in the forum has more knowledge about this item.

Cheers.

I agree with what papapep said (papapep: yes, accents and dièresi are in the spreadsheet, listed as dead keys).

As a side note, I miss the signs « and » there (on a conventional keyboard those are done with AltGr+Z and AltGr+X), but they aren't really important.

Caution! you all are missing perhaps the most important charanter (no kidding): "Ç" or "broken C". It's used in french too and (afaik) in turkish.

(Update: I'm sorry i didn't look at the spreadsheet, and there's the "ç" already. indeed, I consider this as one of the 4 most important of the non-ASCII characters. The "Ñ" is only an spanish character and is not used in catalan at all, except to write out spanish words, or somebody's surnames, which are common among catalan citizens)

I must also say that this is a forum in catalan. You're welcome to post messages here in other languages in order to find some answers to your problems, but if this discussion lasts longer, it'd be better to carry it on another forum, or by e-mail.

This is not intended to you in particular: we're saying the same to everybody writing here in other languages.

Cheers.

Tens raó, Orestes, però m'he saltat la norma donat que el tema va explícitament sobre el català, encara que no es tracti en aquest idioma.
