Questions regarding Drivers

Hi experts, good day.

This is what I always heard and read from the Linux experts. That I don't need to install the drivers because Linux have it all.

Could somebody explain this to me?

That's a fallacy. The Linux kernel does not have ALL the drivers of hardware out there. If it did, its the only system that we'll use.

Drivers are part of the kernel and the major hardware has some form of support, either official or reverse engineered. Not all hardware drivers are official drivers. A lot of it are really reverse engineered for lack of documentation and stuff. But in a way, its true that the Linux kernel has more driver support than a stock Windows installation (or even OS X).

I guess what you friend meant was, after installing Linux you don't have to worry about drivers since it will most likely detect your current hardware.

Thanks Sir jsgotangco and pinoyskull. Can you give me an article or a link which proves that a Linux Kernel has included some drivers.

Just to prove to my acquaintances that you don't have to install the drivers.

Boot your Linux CD and if your computer works fine then the drivers are there ;-)
