Hey, in the past with my 8.10 beta version system I had multiple problems with flash. At the time I could see video but no audio, after the final release Java started working appropriately and then it was fine. Well since then I have chosen to revert back to my 8.04 system, I just find it more comfortable. Now the problem is that I have both flash player 9 and 10 installed, I have disabled 10 and just tried running 9 to load up youtube flash video's or pandora.com (Gnome Internet Radio) and all my flash sections come up as very large gray play buttons, when pressed the browser seems to be attempting to load the video, but just in a horrible buggy way. With Pandora.com all of firefox stops responding, screen fades to gray. Then when the screen comes back the pandora loading bar has yet to move any further and on refresh does the same thing. I have tried just running flash player 10 and it doesn't do anything at all, the pandora radio application section on the screen is MIA. I have run them both at the same time as well and get the gray box of doom. Also with the youtube videos if I am lucky the bar will go right to the end and start to buffer about 2 seconds on the end, then if moved back to the front it will attempt to buffer but when played the video is lagged back a couple seconds and still runs choppy even then. Please if anyone knows of a way to fix this I would be very pleased.

The pandora site is notoriously troubleome. I've heard a lot of complaints about it.

Not sure why youtube is choppy. Are you on a wireless connection? Does it do it with a wired connection?

And what kind of hardware configuration do you have?

My internet runs through sprints compass 597 through USB. I use KPPP to connect to the sprint network using it. My connection with it are the same on both my desktop (runs Windows XP) and laptop (runs Ubuntu 8.04). On the windows system it runs pandora and youtube video's fine. In the past the laptop ran everything fine. It runs an intel celeron with an 1.8ghZ clock, 2GB ram, intel X3100 GM956 mobile card. Which can run something like 385MB shared ram on my Vista system on my box (Dual boot). I have never been able to get the graphics to run correctly on ubuntu.

What System76 model number is it?

Doesn't sound like a system76 laptop. I think they posted in the wrong category.

Oh yeah I think there should be a sticky with what your signature says Thomas. Perhaps also say, if they don't post their system 76 model number, then they won't get support, at least not from any system 76 staff.

tcrapper,

LOL. After a while, you just get used to asking. :)

Unfortunately, I can't post stickies. I'm not even sure who can. I'll have to dig into that.

Oh ****, I didn't mean to use System76 thread... Well since I am here can you tell me what System76 is haha. I use ubuntu 8.04 linux kernel.

System76 sells pre-installed Linux systems. Their website is http://www.system76.com/ -- check it out. I got my laptop from them and I'm really happy with it! It's really nice to pull your new computer out of the box and _know_ that it's already been tested with Ubuntu and that all the hardware will work with Linux.

Wow the stable performance desktop from system 76 actually has an intel 3100 card in it? My mobile intel X3100 GMA765 has never worked right with ubuntu! Haha Also, with system76 wouldn't you be more likely to spend more. Although a windows box has good specs it runs windows "gag". BUT with the windows boxes with the product endorsement "bloatwear" you do save vase a large chunk of money. Ture/False?

If I remember right, when I compared prices my System76 laptop was a little bit cheaper than a comparable laptop from Dell. I was also able to get one or two features (I think Bluetooth? and maybe something else?) that weren't being offered by Dell.

Having purchased a System76 computer, though, and experienced their support, next time I'd buy a computer from System76 even if it cost _more_ than from somewhere else. System76 provides great support for the hardware and they provide great support for the OS.

When Dell first started offering Ubuntu, I saw some stuff online where other people had compared similar Ubuntu and Windows machines from Dell, and found that the Ubuntu computers were about $50 cheaper than the Windows computers, before taking into account sales prices or other temporary discounts. So, I think False.

Hmmm interesting I will consider buying my next "full" computer through system76, right now I am building my own because my Dell is very poor and the CPU is broken, my own fault in taking it apart :). I could I little under a grand for the parts but if I could find a system76 box for a lower price I would likely consider system76 over newegg.com

Sounds like a Pangolin Performance might fit your budget.
