Something to do with "Pirates of the Carribean" No idea.
@rooster: Not even close. The person with the jar of dirt is more apt to have it than Jack Sparrow.
Jar of Dirt: an item with no value in itself. Its value is derived entirely by the owner's want for it, similar to the "last place trophy"

Oops I'm supposed to do one. I don't know that many so here is a famous one:
A man was found dead inside a glass telephone booth. The phone was dangling from its cord, and there was a hole in each of two opposite sides of the phone booth. Covering the man's arm were horrific gashes and blood was pouring out. Beside the man was a very big fish. What happened?

JDShu said: I'll try again before I go to sleep. The prince with the slower camel gets the throne, while the prince who arrives first gets the country?
Nope.
I just realized that the way I worded the riddle may have been a little ambiguous. (Sorry, I was typing this from memory, because I couldn't find the original on Google)
Let me offer this revision (with the entire thing paraphrased so as not to give away the answer):
A middle-eastern king with two sons becomes terminally ill. He announces that his two sons will race their camels to a city across the desert, and the one who will inherit the kingdom is the son whose camel is slowest.
The two wander aimlessly together through the desert for days trying to out-slow the other. When they stop at an oasis to drink, they meet a wiseman and have a short chat with him, then both sons jump onto a camel and race to the city as fast as they can.
Why?
They discover the distance between the oasis and the neighbouring city is so vast that if they are slow they will dehydrate or starve before reaching the city
Endomancer said: They discover the distance between the oasis and the neighbouring city is so vast that if they are slow they will dehydrate or starve before reaching the city
But wouldn't racing as fast as you can burn calories and make you thirsty even sooner?
The first one to the city becomes king and kills the second before he reaches the city, and the living son has both camels [therefore he has the slowest]
ubunterooster said: The first one to the city becomes king and kills the second before he reaches the city, and the living son has both camels [therefore he has the slowest]
But he doesn't become king until he has the slowest.
They swap camels.... :)
Ok, how about:
The prince who gets the throne is the one who's camel IS the slowest, not the one who gets there last. Therefore, if they tire their camel out by the time they arrive, their camels will be slower. The camel that is more tired or run down will be the slower camel, so the prince that is riding it inherits the throne.
lisati said: They swap camels.... :)
That's it.

Nope. It is not winter, and there's only one bridge.

Oh, that one! My next guess was he was an astronaut whose space shuttle crashed.
Alrighty then. Now just a riddle, not a riddle about an urban legend...
On an island live a dragon and a knight. They have a healthy respect for the strength of the other, so fighting they don't. But liking each other they do not either.
On the island there happen to be seven foul-smelling poisonous wells. Each well is as deadly as the other (which is deadly). The wells are numbered 1 to 7 and an ancient legend tells (and you can trust this one) that the certain death from drinking from one of the wells can only be 'cured' by drinking from a well with a higher number. They did not dare trying this, until one day the dragon proposes that they will present each other with a cup of water which they shall drink. He who lives will have the island for himself. There's a catch though. The number 7 well is at the top of a mountain which cannot be climbed. Of course, the dragon can fly...
The knight takes up the challenge. When the day comes that they shall drink, the knight lives and the dragon dies. You might have *guessed* so, but do you know *how*?
Oh, come on! It's not *that* difficult!
Edit: does the dragon die from the poison?
ubunterooster said: Edit: does the dragon die from the poison?
Yeah, he does.
Oh, I get it. They can not get them selves the water. > they will present each other with a cup of water which they shall drink
ubunterooster said: Oh, I get it. They can not get them selves the water.
Hmmm, I don't get what you got... They give each other a cup of water that they prepared for the other. They drink it. The end of the story is that the dragon dies and the knight lives.
b/c they each must get the other the water, the dragon dies b/c the knight can not get the dragon the water from well7
Ah, ok. Hmmm, I guess I wasn't clear. They give each other the water, they will drink it, after which they can run/fly to drink from a well with a higher number to save themselves. Unless they were smart and already took some water from the higher numbered well with them. Would save some stress. Still, the dragon dies. :)
Let me add this: when the first symptoms of being poisoned occur, it's too late to save yourself.
The knight gets water from well # 1, but slips the dragon salt water.
The dragon gets water for himself from well # 7, and gives the knight water from well # 7.
The dragon feels sick from the salt water, and drinks #7 water to cure himself, but he poisons himself and dies instead because there is no higher numbered water than 7.
The knight drinks the number #1 water, then drinks the #7 water to cure himself, and lives on...
...lonely, embittered, master of an island filled with poisoned wells. As he reaches middle age, he regrets his rash actions, and wishes the dragon had lived, as any sort of company would be a welcome relief from the monotony of his days.
Fortunately you are wrong. Just days after this all happened, a beautiful lady washed ashore. The dragon would certainly have eaten her, but now he did not. They married () and lived long and happy ever after with their 17 children and 131 grandchildren.
Whow... Somewhere this story got a bit out of control...

Just to be sure: yeah, he gave the dragon a healthy dose of salt water and pre-poisoned himself.

...and that's not even *counting* all the ones that died in tragic well water incidents!
Fortunately, Darwinian selection ensures that future generations are able to count to seven and analyze water quality by the time they can crawl.

As I was going to Saint Ives, I met a man with 7 wives. Each wife had 7 sacks, each sack had 7 cats, each cat had 7 kits. How many were going to Saint Ives.
All potential answers to this riddle are based on its ambiguity because the riddle only tells us the group has been "met" on the journey to St. Ives and gives no further information about its intentions, only those of the narrator. As such, any one of the following answers is plausible, depending on the intention of the other party:
If the narrator met the group as they are coming from St. Ives (this is the most common assumption), the answer would be *one* person going to St. Ives; the narrator.
If the narrator met the group as they were also travelling to St. Ives (and were overtaken by the narrator, plausible given the large size of the party), the answer in this case is *all* are going to St. Ives.
It is also never positively established if the group is going to or from St. Ives, they could be going elsewhere, or nowhere at all; perhaps they are just by the road side. This would still give the answer of one, the narrator, because we know from his narration he is definitely going to St. Ives.
However, it has been suggested the answer is zero on the assumption that the question means how many "kits, cats, sacks, wives ... were going to St. Ives?" Although the narrator clearly states he is going to St. Ives, he is not one of the kits, cats, sacks, or wives. And so, by this interpretation, the answer is zero.

Each wife had 7 sacks, each sack had 7 cats, each cat had 7 kits. How many were going to Saint Ives. You were? I'll go with that one.

Because noone understands?
Well, actually a lot of us do understand it. Sorry, but not correct.
Math is sad because *ars longa, vita brevis*?
Math is sad because it's always being cheated on?
Math is sad because there's no end to division?
Math is sad because the only tea in the teacher's lounge is three four year old packets of Lipton?
Math is sad because Statisticians make more money than mathematicians, and investment bankers make more money than either of them?
Math is sad because Algebraic Topology is hard?
Math is sad because it's sic and tired of going fourth and multiplying?
Well, it's mostly a pun...
Because it has too many problems ???
Correct!
Since you're in my fridge, how's the milk, butter, and eggs ??
Is that a riddle?
I don't think it is.
