I was given an infraction for trolling for this post It started of as a joke. If this is an infraction then fine, I can accept that, and I'm sorry. What I can't accept is the fact that in every other thread I read some one is saying "this apt sucks", or "that apt sucks" I said that the hurd kernel was a piece of crap, and it wasn't off topic the discussion was about why the hurd was so long into development w/o out any real progress.

I can't help, but feel like I'm being singled out. If you want to give me an infraction that's fine, but I can spend the rest of my life going through the forums posting links to other threads, with the same "trolling" infractions, and would expect those posters to receive the same treatment I have.

The whole trolling thing doesn't make any sense to me anyways every issue has more than one side I could say that some one that thinks the hurd is the greatest thing since sliced bread is trolling because that's a remark I would know would be disputed by a lot of people.

I found this Flaming and condescending messages: Flames are messages that personally attack, call people names, or otherwise harass another forum member (or any person or group).

I don't see how my remark falls into this classification

This thread entitled "Why Ultimate Edition Totally Sucks" has been sitting on the front page of Other OS talk for 6 months, hmmmm

In the Forum Code of conduct we set the standard for these Forums.

"Be respectful of all users at all times. This means please use etiquette and politeness. Treat people with kindness and gentleness. If you do this the rest of the code of conduct won't need more than a cursory mention."

Your post did not meet this requirement. There is many ways you could have stated your position without resorting to the manner you chose.

The infraction issued is supported and up held

That's fine. Can we address the reason why this rule is being applied to me, and not the other 25,000 "this sucks", or "that sucks post", and thread titles. Those would clearly fall into this same category. W/O absolute structure there is absolute chaos. How am I to know what is acceptable, and what is not if the coc is enforced so sporadically?

#6

The only reason I raise this issue is because of the "grayness" involved the rule it's self seems very subjective, the only thing I would really have to gauge myself on is the precedence set by the moderators themselves, but because of the varying nature of the post that are allowed, and disallowed it makes it very difficult to do.

#7

As I said the UE sucks thread has been on the front page of other OS talk since I can remember. There's no way the mod that gave me the infraction hasn't seen it, so why wasn't it pulled, or the title changed? Why did he choose to enforce this subjective rule on me, and not that? This is the kind of hit, or miss moderation that makes me wonder if I'm being picked on.

It has been applied to you as the post came to the attention of staff as its content was clearly unnecessarily disresptectfull.

Disrespectful to whom the comment was directed to an inanimate object not a human being

#10

I could see if it was a thread about how great hurd was, but it was a thread about why it hasn't come to pass

#11

If it had been a thread about how great hurd was my approach to a disagreement would have been way more sensitive so as not to offend or derail the the original poster

#12

The attempt that the next poster made to moderate my comment was way more condescending, as it was directed to me a human, rather than hurd an object yet I'm sure this wasn't addressed. I'm sure your a busy man/woman so I let go, just wanted to get that off my chest

#13

ps you guys should really let us edit these things so we dont have to keep adding new post

#14

I am here to hear your views .I am only too willing to give an issue as much time as it needs to come to a conclusion. So please dont limit your time.

I do see the points you are making . I will give it more thought

All I can say, is when I made the original commit that started this whole thing "They should have named it GNU TURD instead" I in no way intended for it to be inflammatory. It was just a silly remark that expressed how I felt about the project in 10 words or less. It was never my intention to offend anyone. I believe that this remark only became trolling when a over zealous poster attempted to moderate my post in an extremely condescending manner, which offended me, and lead me into a "trolling" type of situation. I appreciate your time, and thank you for hearing my side.

After giving this a lot of thought I am still at the conclusion that the infraction issued is appropriate.

I do not support the view " but everyone is doing it so its OK" argument.

That's fine I expected as much. I wouldn't let my son use that as a defense. It was more to vent than anything else. Now a clear limit seems to have been set for me, at least, and I will hold myself to this. Thank you again for your time
