Keeping It Real

Ok, I don't know how many times now I've missed out on a killer Linux app because I was too damn lazy to surf the new sites and participate more in the forums. I'm just now finding out that El Tunes is gone as of September of last year...I've been an Ubuntu Linux user way longer than that and have been looking for a way to play a large iTunes music library under Linux. Now I'm not saying we all need to drop our lives and live in these forums, but the spirit and strength of Ubuntu is community involvement. Let's make it a point to be as active as we reasonably can, shall we?

Oh, and by the way, it's occured to me that Apple is even more elitist than Microsoft. Their hardware costs an average of twice what PC hardware costs and there software is equally expensive. Viva Linux!

You get what you pay for with the hardware, please stop spreading FUD. They aren't elitist, Jobs himself has said he wants to make the best computer out there, not the cheapest.

Apple may not be elitist, but they are certainly more draconian with their liscensing terms. Bill Gates may not be Jesus, but Steve Jobs certainly isn't either.

Don't get me wrong, I believe people/companies should have the right to do what they want with their products, but that doesn't mean I will like or use their products if the restrictions are too tough.

Through Next, Steve Jobs advanced computing more than anyone. The NeXt OS is still more advanced in some ways than its descendant, OS X.

Honestly...stop spreading FUD when you have not a clue what you are even talking about. Mac OS X is an excellent operating system, and a nephew to Linux...

Indeed, BSD has no relation to Linux at all, apart from the fact they're both UNIX-like OSes.

I've thought this for a while. Apple lock people in more than Microsoft do (iPod + iTunes for instance).

I totally agree with you, for example apple does not let you install mac on a pc or a virtual machine while microsoft does. So in this way apple is worse than microsoft

A 15" Macbook Pro is $2000. It's got a 2.6 GHz CPU, 2 GB of RAM (albeit DDR3), 250 GB HDD, and a 9600 and 9400 GT GPUs. Of course its got some things other laptops dont (DDR3, two graphics cards for longer battery life, some people think they look nice), but you're defiantly not getting your full $2000 there.

I've never been impressed with Apple hardware. A comparatively-priced Thinkpad usually offers more power, and I've found the workmanship to be comparable. Much of what you pay for with a Mac is the way the software and hardware complement and fit with each other. Since I don't particularly like OS X, that doesn't do much for me.

...and OS X has a fairly convoluted relationship with FreeBSD anyway.
