Any chance of offering AMD for CPU options?
Am i the only one who'd really rather not have to buy Intel?
_Update:_ P.S. What about ATI graphics for laptops as well?

No, don't do that, I own stock in Intel, LOL

We've offered them before. I'm sure we'll offer them again at some point. There have been a number of people ask that, so the powers-that-be are certainly aware that there is an interest in it.
I agree with the OP, I'd rather support AMD than be forced to buy Intel.
I also Buy AMD when possible although my bought my netbook before my computer broke with an AMD x2 in it now i am stuck with Celeron.
Add me to the list
Why would one choose AMD over intel. I don't really know anything about this so just want to get an idea.
Thanks
Here is an interesting article on the debate: AMD vs. Intel.

Both have proven to be very open source friendly.

That's from 2007, hasn't AMD proved to be much more open-source friendly than Intel since then?
I'm especially put off by Intel's push for EFI...And here's why i think EFI is a huge problem: http://pinstack.blogspot.com/2009/01/efi-hidden-threat-to-computing-freedom.html
Linus calls it "this other Intel brain-damage (the first one being ACPI)"
Also, what about ATI graphics for your laptops as well? I believe ATI is much more open source friendly than nvidia
Funny, how both of the things i want in a computer, yah guys dont offer...
AMD processors and an ATI 3200HD

Hey, System76 is the only copmany i recommend to people for buying comuters. The only thing i'd like to see is a shift from Intel and nVidia to AMD and ATI-- using Coreboot and the addition of a tablet offering would officially make System76 perfect in my eyes =]
While I'll agree to the AMD processors, I have to admit, I'm still a big fan of nvidia (not because of politics or drivers or anything, just because I prefer their cards).
Dont get me wrong, I like Nvidia, but to offer ONLY intel and Nvidia seems like an insult to linux which will work with anything for free....and an insult to ubuntu kinda, which is computing for everyone..well not having an amd processor is certainly not "computing" for me [. I like amd processes, never had a problem with them, where as with intel, ive had nothing but problems...ill use an nvidia card if i must but i really prefer a ATI card...just feels more open source friendly. Mind you this is only my opinion.
Just make sure that if you do offer ATI it's a choice on each model. I will never buy another ATI product after they _decided I can't upgrade my current laptop to Jaunty_ (which is why I'm hanging out in a System76 forum.) And no, the open source video driver is not usable, I tried it with the LiveCD and the games I run in wine failed with it. (I've read similarly negative reports from others as well) Being open source friendly is nice but being functional and not forcing early obsolescence is more important to me.
I expect the same to happen with the current generation of ATI GPUs in literally a couple years. Nvidia maintains a Legacy driver, and Intel graphics are Actually open source friendly (Poulsbo aside)
EDIT: As for CPUs, if AMD were not the same company as ATI it would make me a lot more comfortable with them. I'm undecided if I would buy an AMD CPU now.
The first time I tried to do so, installing SP3 broke the XP installation on my Compaq desktop which has an AMD processor! D'oh! Stupid Windows! (Thankfully fixed easily enough with a patch from HP, I needed to reinstall XP and Ubuntu on that machine anyway)

It was my understanding that AMD and ATI had opened up everything and if things don't work it's because things are still catching up on our end
Yeah amd are a real hassle for linux from flash to printers. Linux is to much work and hassle.
