Hello everyone...

To know more about Gawad Kalinga here is their website

http://www.gawadkalinga.org/

With Ubuntu, i think this is not an issue.

Kung meron na po tayong team, we can coordinate with GK at Canonical para sa project.

Kung interesado po kayo please let me know... Just send me your thoughts mga pips kung anong sa tingin niyo...

I am currently writing a draft proposal to our country coordinator here para makapag submit ng formal proposal sa Canonical at sa ibang sponsors. Kailangan din namin maghanap ng local freight na gustong mag sponsor to bring the computers to Philippines.

Yung nasa ibang lugar din pwede nyo ring gawin ito... please let me know para meron tayong isang proposal sa GK office sa Manila...

salamat po muli!!!

I was involved with a project in Gawad Kalinga. It was called GTek (Gawad Teknolohiya). It was designed to educate high school students from GK sites on IT skills so they can be more prepared when they graduate.

I was one of the volunteer mentors before. Problem was TIME constraints and very little volunteers.

If you guys maybe we can ask from the Project Manager of Gtek if Ubuntu Philippine LOCO can restart it.

This is nice business.geek

Can you share to us the project details so that we can use it as well? Do you use F/OSS also then? I know softwares were usually the problems in donating computers.

Sino po yung Project Manager? Maraming salamat po...

The original curriculum uses Microsoft Office and Photoshop but due to the lack of licenses i had to push for Openoffice and Gimp. The project manager of GTek is Ronald Joseph Serra.

cheers!

Hey this is a great idea. im not a GK member but i have been doing volunteer works before for a number of organizations. Right now with KIWANIS.

I also am new with ubuntu, but can set it up easily.

Im here in davao, and if you have projects here. count me in.

This will be a big GK project for our province.... Pano po ba set-up ng project?

try natin ma-kontak si Ronald Joseph as business.geek informed us na meron ng same project. baka makatulong tayo sa pag-usad ng proyekto.

for the meantime, finalize muna namin ng country coordinator yung proposal para makadiskarte ng mga computers dito.

guitar_man maraming salamat muli!!! keep it rolling!!!

Last time I heard, RJ (ronald Joseph) is no longer a full time worker for CFC for the Gtek project. But he was one of the brainchild of the project so I guess he is the best person to contact about it.

He is now into real estate. here is his website:

http://www.integrityrealty.com.ph/

Just tell him Noel Nuguid referred you. Im not too sure if what happened with the project after I left CFC (im now in LOJ) so things might have changed now.

Honestly, we had quite of a clash with some of the mentors there since they wanted to teach MS Office and but we didn't have the licenses. I had tried to push for open source before but things were really hairy.

But that was many years ago when Ubuntu didn't exist.

SIDENOTE: I would recommend bringing this project with the Light of Jesus Community. Its head -- Bo Sanchez is already using technology to helping out people much the same as GK does (LOJ in fact has its own GK site to take care of).

cheers!

guitar_man pwedeng pwede po! tell them we are having this discussion sa thread.. tapos pagsamasamahin na lang natin yung plan. if we are going to ask Canonical to support our project, I believe GK-HQ best manggaling yung proposal.

As far as i know there were around 6 Gtek sites. each site were given 5 PC's donated by HP. Pero you may go ahead and contact CFC HQ for it.

cheers!
