Right-clicking with one-button Mac mouse

Hi! I'm a new user of Ubuntu on an old Mac G3 (beige). I've used Unix and Linux for many years, though. I have a question about using the Mac's one-button ADB mouse in X Windows. I understand that there's a special mechanism in the Linux kernel to emulate a multi-button mouse, but I can't find any documentation in Ubuntu that explains it.

So, how do I emulate a right-click on a Mac with a one-button mouse? Or, for that matter, a click on the middle button, which many X Windows applications and window managers require?

That will work with Gnome, but.... Does anyone know how to do the same with Xubuntu? The keyboard preferences don't offer the same customization, it seems.
