I'm probably pushing my luck here, given the current state of things, but I feel my point wasn't made the first time I posted it because it was eclipsed by the very unnecessary remark I made.

So, to the point: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1057377

Why was that thread closed? Because someone requested it based on their (clearly faulty) expectations of where the thread may or may not go?

The OP came back, chilled out, and restated his issue. He made some valid points.

I think it's become easy for people (like Twitch6000, for instance) to just assume that people who disagree or dislike Ubuntu are trolls, and it's really not fair that their threads are killed like that. I understand this particular post read like a one-hit-wonder, but the thread was closed *after* the OP came back and restated his case. Why?

It doesn't affect me at all, I realize, but if we only care about what affects us, nobody would be here helping complete strangers with no expectation of compensation. Right?

Anyway, I hope I presented this point a little more clearly. :)

As a side note, I was *stunned* that the mods/admin here supported this whole "troll" nonsense. It seems cold and uncaring to label someone with a derogatory term and pigeonhole them into a profile of expected behavior just because they - like myself, recently - didn't express themselves or their point clearly.

That's not to say those who break the rules shouldn't be dealt with fairly, just that I think calling someone a "troll" is equivalent to calling them the "N" word, or some other derogatory name. In my mind it's arrogant, churlish, and reprehensible in the extreme.

JMO, anyway. :)

I am looking into this.

Ok I talked with the staff member that closed the thread; It was closed on the reasoning that it was a repost of the same topic that was earlier closed.

Based on the last response from IHateYou it seems like the thread is heading in a positive direction so I will open it back up with a reminder for both sides you be respectful.

I assure you I won't become that person who is posting fifty threads a week here, complaining about everything. That post was just an example of the point I was trying to make last week. I wasn't really looking for it to be reopened. Surely the mods know the rules better than I.

What I was looking for was a why, which I now have. :P I don't expect anybody to clear anything with me, I just wanted to understand why these things were happening.

Thanks. :)

Oh it's unbelievable the amount of stuff mods have to sift through to keep the place tidy and orderly; not at all surprising for an oversight or non-optimal decision to be made in the process. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
