Anong IM client gamit niyo na may video/voice? Kahit anong protocol basta gumagana ang video/voice chat.

Skype o Kopete. :D

#3

empathy

#4

Skype most of the time. It just works nice.

#5

Skype for the win

#6

Libre ba ang Skype? How did you get your Windows-using contacts to switch? Mapili ba ang Linux sa headset or is it safe to buy an El-Cheapo set from CDR King?

#7

Hehehe!

#8

Skype and Gyachi :)

Pwede na ba Yahoo webcam sa Empathy? :)

matagal pa siguro or di na iimplement.. :D

skype kasi ang may exponential growth of users eh, tapos may skype for linux pa. so walang driving force (ie walang nang-gugulo sa empathy development) demanding Y! feature this and Y! feature that. ;)

I really don't get why people can't ditch Y!M when Skype is definitely the more superior product. I guess its because all of my contacts are Skype users with broadband access so my Y!M is just legacy for me. Not to mention that Skype IS ENCRYPTED.

My groupmates and I are supposed to have a conference later so I proposed Skype. The other one doesn't know what it is and finds it complicated so she suggested to use Y! instead. Some people are just reluctant to try new things.

#12

That's true. Another superior alternative is Google Talk and since Google Talk can now do video conferencing as well (in glorious h.264), Y!M is pretty much legacy.

Puwede sanang Pidgin kaya lang wala namang video and voice. Kailan kaya magkakaroon ng GoogleTalk for Linux?

#14

Ang bilis mo pa ma spam sa Y!M and entry point for trojans.

#15

Skype.

#16

Microsoft Communicator sa office > no choice

I'm starting to use Skype,, free service pa lang (wala ako credit card) pero I can make calls to US toll free numbers.. pano kaya sa mga Philippine toll free numbers? Sir jsgotangco, pwede ba gamitin skype for Phils. tfns?

*edit...* mali... wala pala video and voice ang Pidgin... madalang ko naman kasi gamitin video and voice kasi naka Globe wireless ako.. pero nung na try ko skype.. okay siya...

i would have ditched my Yahoo! email account if not for the YM.. gusto ko na nga ring ipa close yan eh, kaya lang halos lahat ng mga kakilala ko andyan sa YM eh...

:lolflag:

pero seriously, gmail works well for me... (and pag Skype, wala ako ka kilala eh.. pa add naman )

I would have been completely moving to linux if it was not for a stable voice chat client. Skype works fine, but not universally available as it is banned by some isps (for being a voip client). Empathy is not stable yet.

I hope someone will fill this major gap by making empathy more stable, functions as expected or developing a universal voice chat client. Until then I will have to do distro and OS hopping once in a while. I have not lost hope yet.

Banned? where?

I've tried Skype on PLDT, SmartBro, and Viacomm in the Philippines and Cox and ATT in California and so far, it works without a hitch.

And it is universally available, me and my Ubuntu friends from Hong Kong, Germany, UK, Netherlands and Mainland US contact each other via Skype.

#20

As an example it is banned in Dubai a very popular destination in Middle East.

Skype....

ASTIG!!! :guitar:

Currently I'm using Pidgin, Skype, and trying out Kopete.

While I'm happy with Pidgin my only gripe about the program is that it doesn't have cam support.

Skype is cool and it rocks though only a few people use it thus far.

As for Kopete, I was told that it can view web cam broadcasts but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. My friend said that I should have a web cam installed before I can view other people's broadcasts. Also, the pictures people post as avatars and what not doesn't show on Kopete for some reason though I can see their status messages. If I can work around the "issues" I just brought up, I may just ditch Pidgin and use Kopete, until then however, I may just stick to Pidgin for the meantime.

Advice and pointers welcome :)

try also gyachi the hacked version of YM..it has a webcam and a voice broadcast

Is gyachi still available for Ubuntu 10.10? i've tried searching for it online (not just repository), pero wala akong makita, e. as for Kopete, kelangan ata ng Jasper pero there's some file location changes kaya di gumagana... pano ba yun?

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:adilson/experimental sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gyachi

pwede rin geny pero empathy can serve you more like video calls with gtalk.

i think loell no longer packaged gyachi for maverick... try mo ppa:adilson/experimental

me? I use skype na pero to my stubborn YM using friends i use KDE's default Kopete. I haven't tried voice pero yung cam nagwwork... just install libjasper-runtime.

#27

I've also been using skype for about a year now, I just had to convince all that's close to me to use skype as well. ;)

recently ko lang na-try ang skype. sobrang iba sa voice quality. maganda sya. pero may bugs lang minsan, lalo na pag hindi siguro parehas ng version. hindi lumalabas ang video. pero so far, so good sya.. :)

pero do you guys know how to use YM video for emphaty?

#29

tech-hero said: pero do you guys know how to use YM video for emphaty?

#30

#31

#32

#33

Guys, have you heard that MICROSOFT bought SKYPE for 8.5 billion USD? Will they still support SKYPE for LINUX then? i just think that skype is the best thing when it comes in voice and video calls. It's a good thing that they are supporting linux. But now, microsoft will use this for their proprietary platforms and etc.

Uu nga.. :(

have you also heard Microsoft promises not to ditch Mac, iPhone, Android Skype users... but then again, promises are meant to be broken. Worst case scenario from Qt magiging Mono na Skype. :-(

yup.. for those devices maybe.. but for LINUX desktop, i doubt about it. We may be stuck at 2.1 beta forever. sigh.

#44

Let's move to Blink!

#45

alternative ko ay ang ekiga..

#46

RIP Skype :(
