I think FreeSans would make an excellent default choice of font, what do others think?
It fits with most applications i have tried it with, and just looks so much more polished and easier on the eyes.

I don't like FreeSans. I like Deja Vu Sans better.
I'm all for changing to a different one but FreeSans is not the one. Extremely blurry font. I'd suggest either Droid or Liberation over Free & DejaVu.
yeah.. the choice of questions could have been better in hindsight, still, keep the suggestions coming!
Almost anything would be better than the standard plain tacky font. It was alright when Ubuntu was 'up against' XP, but now with the obvious comparisons people will draw to Vista (yes, i know Ubuntu is about 1 billion times under the hood), it would be nice to see some attention being paid to the standard look.

free sans is to blurry. i use dejavu and liberation for ms fonts.

No, it is not the same as Liberation font even if they have similar names.
