did a fresh jaunty install , changed sources.list to karmic and updated last night .:P

I think I changed my sources.list a little early - half of the packages were listed as "local or obsolete" !

Old development rubbish already cleared out - Jaunty in use as main version on all machines. Test machines all set to go. I've been ill but well enough now to carry on testing :)

Ready with a new clean partition for the Koala :)

To upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic, do you just replace all instances of "jaunty" with "karmic" in your sources.list?

Yes, the test box is a boring old box now, I miss the updates. Besides it's got a drive w/ intrepid that needs a kick to the curb. Then I have a jaunty install if I really needed the machine for some reason, but of all my Intrepid installs this one seemed to be the best. Might be it's a simple setup, so I wasn't jacking around with it installing this & that, & that too! Bring on the carnage...

I'm in--will be doing my X2 32 bit testing installs again & adding a 64 bit install this time---Rogue 3 to Rogue leader.....the word is GO!!!!

My spare computer is primed for my first development testing experience!

Welcome to the "beyond-the-bleeding-edge" group....We who are here like the carnage & breakage of early-adopter testing---keep your eyes open & check the forum often before you do that update....will save your hind-end many times over.....

Then load your sources list and replace all instances of jaunty with karmic and save back. Then use synaptic to reload and update. Easy (if you're up to the testing and bug reporting) and better than VM. Though VM is safer if you value your data.

A spare machine is best of all, of course. An old one, a new cheapo one, or one cobbled together from odd bits :lolflag:

Same with other people on here, I've had a spare partition doing nothing for days now, glad I have the Karmic Koala now :)

I can't see a single thing wrong with my plan, btw. Not a single thing. Especially combined with a triple-boot alongside OSX and Win7. What could go wrong? :lolflag:

Replace Win7 with Vista.

I've found Se7e to be more stable :lolflag:

Postman delivered me my new laptop "HP DV5-1115EO" Few hours ago, Jaunty install CD in, and off I went.

Then "sed 's/jaunty/karmic/g' sources.list" and "aptitude dist-upgrade" So here I am :)

Didn't even start on windows (laptop came pre-installed with Vista) liveCD and parted mysteriously erased those two partitions created by Vista Loader...

So far working nice, only two problems: -Sound (had to edit modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf) FIXED -WLAN, AR928X chip doesn't work "otb" (ath9k) driver, so will be googeling...

Be happy to test with all of you once more.

I'm getting a older Thinkpad T23 (via eBay last weekend) soon & looking forward to having 3 systems running Linux only--my main Is 4 Ubuntu installs (2 testing 32 bit--1 testing 64 bit-1 Jaunty) has a copy of Fedora11 on one of the testing partitions---My wife's unit is running the Heron & I'll run Jaunty + a Karmic testing on the new 'top.......

I have an ask of the team ... If Pulseaudio is the default, could you please make it really easy to get it up and running?

The instructions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578 work, but they are really complex to follow. The kicker is having to remember to add users to the various groups for Pulse Audio.

I'am also testing on one machine, hope it doesn't break too much, as long as i can use it. I got 1 bug reported and fixed and another bug reported.
