So the gnome 2.27 roadmap doesnt have anything of real depth on it as far as I can see.

Not really sure--I'm following Gnome 3--it's under fairly heavy development right now---they have been talking about Gnome 3 starting in this cycle or the next one.....
I think a majority of this cycle is gonna be cleanup to make way for Gnome 3, as well as the new Gnome-Shell. (which already looks way awesome, haha)
Personally I can wait for Gnome 3 and have it next year. A "bugfixing" release with not many features but bug fixes is fine for me, so I am hoping for Gnome 2.28 in KK.
But that is only me, a converter from KDE to Gnome because I was to weak to handle with KDE4 (at least as for the moment). I can absolutely pass on a KDE-like "disaster" in Gnome...

P.S.: Yes, I am looking at KDE once in a while, because I still want to use it some day.
KDE is, at the moment, clearly superior to Gnome...but I'm just way more comfortable in Gnome. I remember when 4.2 was released, I said I was switching for sure, but I came crawling back.
I can't wait for Gnome 3.0. Hopefully they'll be able to close the gap somewhat.
Alternatively, I hope KDE can continue their inroads into usability and make it a nice place for people like me.

It's an evolution, provided you have the dependencies it can run in 2.28. I doubt that will be recommendable though, it uses whole new intrastructure (the introspection stuff as well as the javascript bridge to GObject), it's also still early in development. I doubt it will be ready for us to bestove on innocent users as anything but a preview, aside that the design isn't fully hashed out yet there are many cases the shell people has not yet figured out how to deal with.
As for what will be in 2.28, I think we will have a clearer idea once the cycle is up and going for a while. We still haven't even reached the module proposal stage yet. Webkit-gtk has been making a lot of progress in accessibility so now it should finally be able to be made the default in Epiphany as well as a blessed dependency for GNOME. That is one thing I look forward to personally.
Aside that the Tomboy syncronization service sounds like an idea that is made of complete win, I hope that gets to a point where we have a prototype soon.

The project is still in early stages of development. The plan is to have it be an optional feature in GNOME 2.28, and to replace the existing components for GNOME 3.0. It is currently possible to try it out by building and running it yourself.

Yes and thanks.... there it was, for the moment its rather stable on my PC.
Did you get the commits from yesterday? If so, try the "drop an app on the plus sign to open a new desktop"---It's not working all the time for me--but it is interesting.....
