If I run up Evolution in Karmic Ubuntu I get an indicator-applet (0.1), an envelope, displayed next to the wireless signal strength applet, in top right-hand corner. It does not seem to do anything and stays on the desktop after closing Evolution. Comments (bug ?).

Try mailing yourself and see if it is giving some kind of message (without evolution open)
If so, this might me a feature I have waited on for years, evolution checks for mail without being "open" :)
No, it doesn't seem to do that when I email from another PC with default options set in Evolution. After installing the latest updates today the applet now disappears after closing Evolution:confused::confused::confused:
I do not know why you are confused this is the indicator applet.. You should see a green dot on it if you ve got a message to read...

Yes, I think that is the intended behavior :)

No green dot displayed. Do I need to activate anything else to get the green dot? I've sent several messages from one PC to another.
If you are using Pidgin you should see as well this indicator showing up..and showing a green dot when you receive a new message..
Me sometimes i can see that i ve got email waiting for me without touching evolution with this mail with a green dot but sometimes it does not work.....
