Tutorial of the Week revived

This is what I will post in the T of W thread in T&T and in Cafe:

__________________ The tutorial of the week for May 11, 2009, is HowTo: Install the very latest MPlayer under Jaunty Jackalope from andrew.46.

This is a nifty tutorial that will show you how to successfully compile the subversion MPlayer under Jaunty Jackalope. For memory, ubuntu-freak's "Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto" was the Tutorial of the Week for October 06, 2008 and should be used if you do not wish to compile applications.

This tutorial is very well presented, and, most of all, supported. You can even browse a recent tutorial from the same author, "Top 10 Tricks and Tips for the svn MPlayer" that focuses on MPlayer usage. Long hours of fun ahead! __________________

Out of today's submissions I reviewed, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1158040 seemed the most comprehensive and well-written. Not to say I won't find a better one later this week, I'm just bookmarking the better ones here. Any other nice ones out there?

I feel that my guide has reached a nice stable stage. Especially since NViDIA have now released the driver as an Official Stable, and it won't be expected to enter the Ubuntu Repositories until October.

I was getting database errors this morning. I have a small txt file I could gather regarding new ToW. I need one for tomorrow. I can write the posts here for next ones and you can just copy them to the ToW thread and UWN if any of you wishes while I'm gone on vacations.

Yes you are, and i forgot BobSongs's tutorial which is now a well known one, it sure deserves to be in the ToW one day too.

Who has never used Firefox? This tutorial from lovinglinux, "Firefox optimization and troubleshooting thread" has rapidly gained a lot of attention. So if you are interested in various Firefox optimizations (speed, extensions, Flash, profiles etc.) this tutorial is for you. The thread is well written and organized, steps to revert the changes are presented and lovinglinux will give you support if you have any question.

update: Just tried it out ... couldn't get it working. :( I may have missed something somewhere ... but may I also note that if it ruins your system, all you can do is rebuild the system.
